When The Light Is Gone

I walk the road that’s lined and paved.

The Son is bright and lights the way.

I can see the path laid out for me.

I feel at ease, relaxed and free.

But now and then, from time to time

The light grows dim, and darkness shines.

I no longer see each step I take.

and fear begins to make me shake.

Doubt moves in like a heavy stone

 making the path scary, unknown.

It’s awesome weight bears heavily down

The lies like chains, tightly bound.

The fear in me grows deep inside.

All I want is to run and hide.

But my thoughts turn back to what you’ve said

And I look again to what’s ahead.

 Your promises I know are true

And I know you’re faithful, you will come through.

When I remember this, the darkness clears

When I come back to you, you calm my fears

So maybe the darkness after all

Was never meant to make me fall.

But rather maybe it’s purpose was

To make me see what your love does.

Because when the light is gone, I can clearly see

That you’re the one who’s guiding me.
